This page provides an index of hexagrams in Edward Shaughnessy, The I Ching. The Classic of Changes (New York: Ballantine Books, 1997).

Shaughnessy has an unequalled command of inscriptions and other writing from ca. 1450 B.C. to the Han. He applies it here to translate the variant MS of the I Ching excavated at Mawangdui, Hunan, in 1973, and translates the familiar text alongside it. He also translates the late commentaries found with it, including the familiar 'Appended Comments' (Hsi tz'u of the Ten Wings) and five previously unknown similar commentaries. This is the first integral translation of the Changes to reconstruct the pre-Confucian meaning.

For each hexagram, Shaughnessy gives in Chinese both the received text and the (often incomplete) Mawangdui text, and translates the latter. The hexagram order is different in the two texts, and the names often differ. Since Shaughnessy's book has no index, this page can be used to search for hexagrams by name in either text, and to obtain their ordinal numbers. It allows the reader to find the translation of each hexagram text quickly.
